In the Daughter series, I glued dresses to canvases with acrylic medium and then painted loops on top of them, the brushstrokes revealing the contours of the fabric, like rubbings of a gravestone.

The loops were probably inspired by the Red Ribbon created by the Visual AIDS Artists’ Caucus., which I always associated with my friend, Frank Moore.

The dresses were surrogates for my daughter before she was born, as well as for my deceased wife, people I loved who were either gone or not get arrived. Painting the loops on top of the dresses was a way to touch them and be close to them.
